Newbury Brazilian Jiu Jitsu - Community Storytelling

Project timeline: Ongoing collaboration
Role: Content Creator, Videographer & Creative Support

Newbury Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is more than just a training academy - it’s a community built around discipline, resilience and mutual support.

Studio Lu works closely with Newbury Brazilian Jiu Jitsu to create engaging visual content that reflects the club’s strong sense of community and dedication to the sport.

Through a combination of short-form social media content, event promotion and long-form storytelling, the collaboration focuses on showcasing the people, culture and energy that make the academy such an important space for its members.

Project Overview

Studio Lu supports the club by producing content that helps communicate this spirit both online and through event promotion.

This includes creating social media content that captures the atmosphere of training sessions, highlighting club events and documenting the experiences of members and coaches.

My Role

Event promotion

  • Designing marketing posters and graphics for seminars and club events

  • Creating promotional content to help increase attendance and awareness

Documentary storytelling

  • Currently producing a short film about the club, its coaches and its members

  • The film explores how Brazilian Jiu Jitsu can positively impact people’s lives, both on and off the mats

  • The project will be used across the club’s website and social media channels

Studio Lu provides ongoing creative support for the academy’s marketing and storytelling.

This includes:

Short-form video content

  • Creating promotional reels for social media

  • Capturing the energy of classes, competitions and club culture

  • Editing engaging short-form content designed for Instagram and social platforms

REORG Rollathon Fundraiser

One of the most meaningful events documented through this collaboration was the club’s 24-hour REORG Rollathon, which raised over £10,000 for the charity REORG.

REORG is a global organisation that provides Brazilian Jiu Jitsu opportunities for military veterans and first responders dealing with physical and psychological challenges.

Capturing the Rollathon allowed Studio Lu to highlight not only the endurance and dedication of the participants, but also the powerful community spirit that drives the club and the wider Brazilian Jiu Jitsu community.

The Outcome

Through ongoing collaboration, the content created for Newbury Brazilian Jiu Jitsu helps showcase the club’s culture, celebrate its members and promote the events that bring the community together.

By combining dynamic social media content with deeper storytelling projects, the partnership continues to document how impactful martial arts can be in building confidence, resilience and connection.
